Summary
If you’re looking for Italian, this is the right place. Operacaffe just might be the best Italian cuisine in downtown San Diego. Chef Patrizia Brachi and and Chef Roberto Bernardoni both describe themselves as “purists” when it comes to the culinary masterpieces that they create.
The tantalizing aromas of gourmet Italian cuisine tempt your senses the moment you enter the restaurant. With culinary tour de forces like the beef tartare with bacon, arugula and chives, as well as the la perra paza salad (fresh pear, crisp watercress, soft gorgonzola cheese, lemon and honey dressing), it is evident that Operacaffe aims to please. And it does.
Have dinner or dessert before heading out in the Gaslamp neighborhood. Try the torta di ricotta – ricotta cake with Italian ricotta cheese, pinenuts and raisins. This agreeable delicacy pairs well with a glass of cold Italian white wine. A handsome Italian eatery, Operacaffe is sure to delight your body and mind.

5 Stars for the Opera Caffe
Aside from French food, Italian is my other favorite type of food. Whenever we return to San Diego, The Opera Caffe is definitely on the top of my list of places to go. The Penne Carrettierra was incredible. So full of flavor and a particular spice that they used was a welcome change in Italian food. Along with this, the highlight of the meal was the dessert. Torta del Nonno... CGive it 5/5an you say FABULOUS???? FABULOUS was exactly what it was! The chocolate cake just melted in my mouth and the crunchy pine nuts added a little extra pizazz! My wife and I split it and ended up ordering another one because it was so good :)
This restaurant gets an all around 5 stars from me!

Re: Operacaffe
Dinner at the Operacaffe was amazing. Luke, the concierge at our hotel recommended this restaurant to us. He made us reservations for 8 and the place was packed. We drank some wine and had the "tartara" as an appetizer. My fiancee ordered a couple different entrees for us to share. My favorite was the osobuchini (spelling?) that was served with some amazing rice. He preferred the spaghetti di mare that had a white sauce and various different seafood tossed in with the spaghetti. For dessert, we shared a tiramisu. That was just average. I have had better yet I have had worse.
We plan on returning to the Operacaffe. It was a fun restaurant with a good vibe.
