Summary
Don’t be fooled by the exterior. Rainwater’s on Kettner may conceal itself in an office building, but the restaurant is in the heart of Little Italy. It’s a San Diego institution, twenty-four years old, and still going strong.
San Diego’s first Eastern-style steakhouse, Rainwater’s opened in 1985. It’s been pleasing crowds—and critics. It has won the Wine Spectator “Best of Award of Excellence” award every year since 1985. The thirty-three page wine list offers a comforting introduction and one of the few perfect-rated bottles, a 1995 Chateau Margaux.
If you get through the wine list (or allow your waiters to help you make a selection), the food is worth the wait. Combined with the exceptional service, the traditional décor, Rainwater’s will have you finding your way back again and again.
