Tour Stops
- Plants and Wildlife - Visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of San Diego's natural environment. You are more than likely to see some wildlife including California Gnatcatcher, Rufous-crowned sparrow, mule deer, bobcats, frogs, and salamanders. The plant life is predominantly comprised of beautiful chaparral and coastal sage bushes. During early spring, the mountain gets covered in blue when the lilacs bloom.
- Things to Do - The park offers many well-kept dirt trails perfect for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The Summit trial takes you to the top of Black Mountain where you can enjoy panoramic views of the area. For a more relaxed hike, you can take the Miner's Ridge Loop Trail that is only 2.5 miles of flat terrain.

Re: Black Mountain Open Space Park
Black Mountain Open Space park has some amazing trails to hike. We started off early and wanted to get in a good workout before it got too hot. We must have hiked for three hours before "mom" pooped out. It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning with the family. Watch out for rattle snakes, they are very common there. The scennery is amazing and it is completely FREE!
