San Diego Wild Animal Park
What started as a sanctuary for animals has turned into one of the most unique attractions in San Diego. It is almost like being in the wild. The Wild Animal Park covers 1,800 acres where animals (the herbivores only) are grouped by the region they are originally from. They have room to roam and graze and visitors get to view the animals by guided tram that wraps around the park. It is a much more natural environment than the zoo and visitors get to see interesting heard behaviors. There are other exhibits in the park too such as the California Condor and the lion exhibit. New exhibits are added all of the time so it is worth visiting to see what is new.
The park is attached to CRES, the zoological society's center for conservation and research of endangered species. The park is located in Escondido, about a 45 minute drive from downtown San Diego.
